Lan brings a uniquely interdisciplinary background in venture capital, scientific research, and operational experience across healthcare and AI to Fusion Fund.
She began her career as a research scientist, developing novel MRI diagnostic technologies at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, engineering protein platform innovations at Genentech, and building AI-driven RNA therapeutic design tools at Merck. Her work has spanned the wet lab and the compute stack, giving her a deep appreciation for both experimental rigor and the infrastructure needed to scale breakthroughs.
As a management consultant and early-stage investor, Lan advised healthtech and medtech companies navigating high-stakes AI deployments and operational transformations—ranging from clinical automation and diagnostic tooling to biomanufacturing and digital therapeutics. She believes in long games, high-agency founders, and the power of building enduring platforms in complex, real-world systems. She gravitates toward teams with deep technical edge and a clear sense of purpose—and is most excited by ideas that defy convention but scale with discipline.
Lan holds a B.S. in Chemical Biology, a B.A. in Economics, and a B.A. in Data Science from UC Berkeley, as well as an M.S. in Management Science and Engineering from Columbia University.
